AAP HAS RESTRUCTURED NRP TO NOW REQUIRE COMPLETION OF AN ONLINE EXAMINATION PRIOR TO ATTENDING THE NRP COURSE.

1 .PURCHASE NRP Textbook (Required).Includes Study Guide with Key Points. NRP TEXT $75 – STUDY GUIDE $20

2. PASS NRP ONLINE EXAMINATION (Required).
Enroll online to take test at http://www2.aap.org/nrp/exam/. The fee is $23.50. Creat User ID & Password.Once you begin the test and start a section YOU MUST FINISH SECTION OR YOU FAIL ONCE IF YOU STOP IN MIDDLE. You may exit after completing a section and return to the test, but you only have 14 days to complete the test. AAP/AHA GUIDELINES STATES: You have two chances to pass each lesson!! If you do not pass even one lesson after the second try, you will be required to purchase another $23.50 to take test over. After online testing is complete, students receive a printout indicating which lessons have been successfully completed and the date of completion. The student will then present the printout within 30 days to theAHE Instructor for verification of completion.

3. NRP Interactive Skills Course (required).You have 30 days from the completion date of your NRP ONLINE EXAMINATION to complete the NRP Skills Course.

4. NRP Preparation Lab (Optional). At AHE, we understand that it may be difficult for a new student to learn NRP only from reading a book. We are offering an optional opportunity to come and audit an NPR Course. You may participate in this Lab at any time for assistance on any aspect or NRP required components. This will not substitute for the required NRP Skills Course but it may be very useful for new students to familiarize themselves with the material prior to taking the Online Examination or Skills Course. There is an additional charge of $50 for this option.

The following must be completed to prepare for the course AHE NRP Interactive Skills Course:

This course is designed for health-care providers involved in any aspect of direct patient care during neonatal resuscitations. The Neonatal Resuscitation Program is based on the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and American Heart Association (AHA) Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care of the Neonate. The NRP course format requires learners to study the material from the Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation, 6th Edition, and take an Online Examination before attending the NRP Interactive Course. After passing the Online Examination Learners attend an Interactive Course that includes little or no lecture about textbook contents, uses course time for skills stations and supervised practice, and uses simulation and debriefing as an important part of the learning experience. Candidates must be health-care providers (medical, nursing, paramedical allied health professionals) whose daily occupations demand proficiency in neonatal delivery room resuscitation. The 2010 6th edition textbook is available for purchase. You will receive the Official AAP/AHA Course Completion Card immediately upon successful completion of the Interactive Course. Additionally, there is no longer a distinction between certification and renewal. All students will take the online examination and then participate in the same activities at the NRP Interactive Course. However, participation will be tailored to the experience of the student.

In order to complete the online examination, you MUST purchase or have access to the new NRP Textbook. It is available through our website at registration. A Study Guide with key points will be sent to you when you register for the course. However, it only covers the key points and will not provide sufficient information to pass the online examination. The textbook is 329 pages and includes a DVD to watch. Please allow enough study time prior to taking the examination and registering for your NRP Course. Necessary study time varies by individual and experience.

Prior to the Interactive Skills Course, participants must read the Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation, 6th Edition and then pass the NRP Online Examination, for lessons 1 through 9 to receive the Official AAP/AHA Course Completion Card.

The online examination replaces the written test, and will be hosted by HealthStream. Beginning January 1, 2012, providers will need to self-study the NRP Textbook, and complete the online examination prior to attending the Interactive Course. The test has 9 lessons. The student has 2 attempts for each lesson. Student does not have to take all lessons at the same time. DO NOT LOG OUT WHEN YOU ARE IN MIDDLE OF TAKING A LESSON. THE SYSTEM WILL COUNT IT AS ONE ATTEMTPT !! YOU NEED TO FINISH THE LESSON YOU ARE WORKING ON, AND THEN LOG OUT !!
After online testing is complete, students receive a printout indicating which of the 9 lessons have been successfully completed and the date of completion. The student will then present the printout within 30 days to the instructor for verification of completion. If the student fails one or more lessons on the online test, that lesson(s) may be retaken one time within 14 days. If a student fails any lesson 2 or more times no printout is prepared and the student must repay and must retake the entire exam. The cost for an additional license is $20. Up to 9 hours of Continuing Education Credit (CEU) will be offered for the examination for physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and emergency medical service professionals.
The NRP online examination must be taken and passed NO MORE than 30 days prior to Interactive Skills Course date. If the online exam is completed more than 30 days before course date, the examination is invalid and course participant must pay to take it again. Participants must finish testing within 14 days of their original start date of the online exam.
